The Government has announced that the Plug-in Car Grant has been cut from £3,000 to £2,500 for Electric Vehicles and further changes to the scheme mean that only models up to a value of £35,000 are eligible.
Originally launched in 2011, the Plug-in Car Grant offered up to £5,000 off the price of a new Electric Vehicle for vehicles worth up to £50,000.
The Government say that the changes “target less expensive models and reflect a greater range of affordable vehicles available, allowing the scheme’s funding to go further and help more people make the switch to an electric vehicle.”
The Government goes on to say that, “The number of electric car models priced under £35,000 has increased by almost 50% since 2019 and more than half the models currently on the market will still be eligible for the grant.”
Of course this change does mean some popular models will no longer be eligible but two excellent options that are also two of our leasing deals of the week are the Volkswagen ID3 and the Vauxhall Corsa E.
