Did you know that not defrosting your windscreen adequately and leaving snow on your car could result in a fine and penalty points on your licence?

With the coldest week of the winter so far forecast, it’s worth refreshing your knowledge on how to safely prepare your frosted vehicle before begin your morning commute.

Section 229 of the Highway Code outlines how drivers should prepare their car before they set off after adverse weather conditions.  It says:

“You MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows. You MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible.”

“Make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly.”

Spend an extra few minutes brushing snow from your roof and bonnet, scraping the ice and warming the car before you set off!
