The Jaguar I-Pace has been universally well reviewed (as well as voted 2019 World Car of the Year) – we have rounded up some of the comments to give you an overview of what the experts think of this luxury electric SUV.
WhatCar? gave the I-Pace 5-stars, summarising that the I-Pace is “an extremely appealing choice, whether you’re after an electric car or a luxury SUV.”
It commended Jaguar for remaining faithful to the design of the I-Pace concept which debuted at the LA Motor Show in 2016 and said it “looks like it has driven straight off the set of a sci-fi movie.”
In a real-life test of electric range again WhatCar? was complimentary – it recorded 253 miles on a single charge – the official range is 298 miles. Charging times were quoted as 10hours to get from completely flat to 80% capacity of plugging in at home whilst a 50kW public chargers reduce that time to 85min and 100kW chargers 40min.
Top Gear is equally appreciative, saying Jaguar have ‘nailed it’ with “a rapid, desirable, good-looking SUV that happens to be powered by electricity.” In terms of how the car drives, Top Gear says it is quick – 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds quick, and that it kept up with an Audi RS4! It’s a heavy car, 2.1 tonnes, but it’s “Significant potential for understeer and sloppiness” didn’t materialise.
Some, Top Gear included, think that all electric cars feel pretty similar to drive, once initial acceleration is taken out of the equation and the lack of “gearboxes and engines with individual characters” but overall the I-Pace has garnered some fans at Top Gear.
